Salted Background Technique

I am back with the instructions for this very easy but effective technique. All you need for this technique is, either watercolour paper or Shimmery White paper from Stampin' Up!,  Cooking salt, A spray bottle containing water, an Aquapainter and  an ink refil, preferably in a fairly dark colour. I have used Night of Navy.
Spray the paper with water from a spray bottle to dampen the paper.  Using the Aqua Painter, pick up a small amount of the Reiner off the plastic lid and apply generously to the paper.
Whilst the paper is still wet sprinkle the salt onto the paper. The amount of salt you use will determine how 'blotchy' your background is when it dries.  Allow to dry completely, use a heat gun to speed the process if necessary, but apply gently so as not the blow the salt off before it is dry.  Once dry, rub the salt off and your background is revealed. I have used the same technique on the background of this card.

You have come to my blog from the very talented, Rachel Palmieri.  Blogs are full circles, so you can start hopping here and then at the end of each post is a link to the next. There is also a list of participants at the end in case of any broken links.

The card I have for you uses the Star of Light stamp set and Starlight framelits and a technique called Salted Background. I will have a tutorial here for this technique over the weekend.

Here's a close up of the background and the star, diecut from Stampin Up White Glimmer paper.

Detailed Santa Shaker Instructions

This card was on of my class projects last Saturday and I promised to share the instructions, so here goes.

First cut Whisper White and window sheet to 10cm x 10cm.

Use Detailed Santa thinlit and centre on Whisper White piece, run through Bigshot. I recommend using the precision plate for this.

Apply Thin tip glue pen to the reverse side of the Detailed Santa.

Lay the window sheet over the back of thinlit and hold down with something heavy like a clear block.

Apply foam strips around the outside of the Santa framelit, making sure the are no gaps in the corners.

Use the Emboss Buddy generously around the inside edge of the foam strip to de-sticky the edge of the foam, so that the sequins do not stick to the edges.

Heat emboss the greeting from Greetings From Santa, in white embossing powder.

Place a small pile of sequins on the card front.

Remove the backing from the foam strip and palace the Detailed Santa thinlit and window sheet section over the pile of sequins.

Your card is finished!
